HISTORY BEHIND THE NAME
Born and raised in Madison, Virginia, Dr. Ward grew up in an underserved, rural community. While raised by her parents, Vernon and Virginia Ward, Dr. Ward's character was heavily influenced by her maternal grandmother, Arlene Beauty Blakey Frye and her paternal grandmother, Alice Virginia Weaver Ward. Whether serving the community by providing food, housing, childcare services, or hosting the neighborhood food pantry, Arlene and Alice were known as servant leaders in Madison, Virginia.
Dr. Ward founded Blakey Weaver Counseling Center, Inc. to provide mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, and supportive services to underserved individuals and communities in honor and legacy of her beautiful grandmothers Arlene Beauty Blakey Frye and Alice Virginia Weaver Ward. |
